Amanu

Interior Spread

Amanu is a community and indigenous-led storytelling initiative which seeks to preserve culture and promote its rediscovery by archiving oral stories around the world, with a focus on languages and communities that are endangered.

Around the world and across human history, oral storytelling has played a key role to entertain, to inform, and to spread and maintain cultural traditions and values, accounts of historical events, wisdom, and more.

What if storytelling can enable us to traverse the divisions formed by geopolitics and centuries of colonization? The proverbial fireside storytelling is recreated through experiences influenced by the communities from which collected stories originate. How might these spaces serve as a haven with fertile ground to form new perspectives on what it means to be in community and the genesis of new cultures?

Americas, Northern and Eastern Africa, Oceania, and Southeast Asia.
